About this course
BEng (Hons) Computer Science is an undergraduate computer science degree centred on software engineering, systems design, and modern computational theory. Core topics include Programming, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Research Methods, Project Management, Engineering Design, Communication & Writing, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The course holds professional accreditation from BCS and IET, and offers optional placement year opportunities as well as AWS Academy access and CCNA pathways. The first year introduces fundamental concepts through Computer Systems, Software Principles, Introduction to Programming, Core Mathematics for Computing, Operating Systems, and Into ARU. The second year builds technical competence via Computing Research Methodologies, Database Design and Implementation, Digital Security, Algorithm Analysis and Data Structures, Network Routing, Software Engineering, and a Ruskin Module. In the final year, students complete a Final Project alongside compulsory studies in Image Processing, Professional Issues: Computing and Society, and Cloud Computing. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures, Digital and Network Security Forensics, Advanced Network Solutions, Embedded Computing, and Computer Graphics Programming.
