About this course
BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, a civil engineering degree focusing on the analysis and creation of the built environment. Core topics include Engineering Design. Students can transfer between the Civil Engineering and Structural and Architectural Engineering courses, or opt for a placement year, up to the end of the second year. The first year covers foundational principles through Architectural engineering 1, Design skills, Engineering mathematics and computation 1, Geology, hydrology and surveying, History, theory and engineering practice, and Structural mechanics and materials. The second year builds competence via Architectural engineering 2, Civil engineering infrastructure 1A: hydraulics, Civil engineering infrastructure 1B: transportation, Construction processes and management, Engineering mathematics and computation 2, Soil mechanics and foundation design, and Structural design and construction. The final year involves advanced study and practical application through the BEng civil engineering individual project, Civil engineering elective topics, Civil engineering infrastructure 2, Joint design project, and Structural and geotechnical design and analysis.
