About this course

BEng (Hons) in Integrated Design Engineering, a mechanical engineering degree focused on combining mechanical, electrical and software principles for multidisciplinary product development. Students complete a professional placement year in industry alongside studio-based learning and Design-Make-Test cycles. The first year introduces foundational concepts through Design, materials and manufacturing 1, Engineering mathematics, Mechatronics, Responsible engineering practice, Solid mechanics 1, and Thermofluids 1. The second year builds upon this knowledge with Control and mechatronics, Design, materials and manufacturing 2, Engineering computation, Solid mechanics 2, and Thermofluids 2. Year three consists of a compulsory Professional placement. The final year involves advanced study and project work through the BEng individual project, Human centred design, Mechatronic design project, Product design: methods and theory, and Reverse engineering.
