About this course
BSc (Hons) in Chemistry for Drug Discovery, a chemistry degree centred on the preparation of drugs and medicines, how they work, and the steps involved in the discovery process. Major pharmaceutical companies contributed to the design of the course. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Analytical and spectroscopic techniques, Biological chemistry and physiology, Foundations and applications of chemistry, Medicinal chemistry, Skills for chemists, and Year 1 laboratory. The second year progresses with Characterisation, analytical chemistry and spectroscopy, Fundamental concepts of chemistry, Major therapeutic areas, and Year 2 laboratory. The final year involves advanced study through Advanced chemistry 1, Advanced practical skills, Problems and solutions in modern chemistry B, and Synthesis, development and design of pharmaceuticals.
