About this course
BSc (Hons) in Social Sciences, a social sciences degree examining contemporary issues of social change, policy, and justice through an interdisciplinary approach. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, and Research Methods. Students complete a professional placement year and undertake a final-year dissertation. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Becoming a social scientist 1, Social problems, social change and the state, and The making of modern society. The second year focuses on methodological training through Qualitative analysis: the power of immersion and Quantitative data analysis: the power of statistics, alongside a choice of specialisms including policy, social theory, and justice and conflict. The third year consists of a professional placement. The final year centres on independent research through the Social sciences dissertation.
