About this course
BSc (Hons) in Sociology and Social Policy, a sociology and social policy degree focused on the investigation of social institutions, structures, and welfare issues. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Research Methods, Policy Analysis, and Ethics & Professional Practice. Students undertake a professional placement in their third year and complete a major dissertation in the final year. The first year introduces foundational themes through Becoming a social scientist 1, The making of modern society, and Understanding social change. The second year advances core competencies via Contemporary sociological theory, Qualitative analysis: the power of immersion, and Quantitative data analysis: the power of statistics. The third year consists of a professional placement. The final year concludes the programme with Policy analysis for professional practice, Sociology and beyond, and the Sociology and social policy dissertation.
