About this course

MPharm (Hons) in Pharmacy, a pharmacy degree focusing on medicines design and healthcare practice. Core topics include Research Methods and Ethics & Professional Practice. Students undertake placements in community, General Practice, and hospital settings across the South West alongside campus-based simulations. The first year covers health and disease, the chemistry of drugs, the science of medicines, and professional practice foundations through modules such as Fundamentals of pharmacy: health and disease, Fundamentals of pharmacy: the chemistry of drugs, Fundamentals of pharmacy: the science of medicines, and Preparing for professional practice 1. The second year addresses specialised integrated units on immunity, inflammation and infection and gastrointestinal disease, cardiovascular disease and endocrine disorders, management of respiratory diseases and dermatology, and special patient groups and surgery, alongside preparing for professional practice 2. The third year continues with specialised integrated units covering neurology and mental health and oncology and palliative care, alongside medicines optimisation and prescribing in complex patients 1 and preparing for professional practice 3. The final year concludes with global health, medicines optimisation and prescribing in complex patients 2, preparing for professional practice 4, and a pharmacy research project.
