About this course
MPhys (Hons) in Physics with Astrophysics, a physics and physics with astrophysics degree centred on the application of physical principles to astronomical phenomena and the cosmos. Core topics include Data Analysis. The fourth year includes an MPhys research placement, and students complete a final-year project linked to departmental research. The first year covers the foundations of the subject through Dynamics and astrophysics, Foundations of physics 1, Mathematics for physics 1, and Physics skills 1. The second year progresses with Foundations of physics 2, Further physics: from neutrinos to black holes, Mathematics for physics 2, Physics skills 2, and Scientific computing and advanced data analysis. The third year involves Advanced quantum mechanics, Fluid dynamics in physics and astrophysics, Galaxies and introduction to cosmology, General relativity, MPhys / MSci project preparation, and Stars and stellar evolution. The final year concludes with Advanced general relativity, Cosmology, Galaxy evolution, High energy astrophysics, and the MPhys research placement.
