About this course

MSci (Hons) in Mathematics and Physics, a physics and mathematics degree exploring the intersection of formal mathematical systems and physical theories. Core topics include Mathematical Modelling and Research Methods. The five-year programme includes an integrated professional placement or study abroad period, concluding with a substantial final-year research project. The first year introduces foundational concepts through Core pure and applied mathematics A, Core pure and applied mathematics B, Foundations of physics 1, and Mathematics and physics skills 1. The second year builds competence via Advanced linear algebra, Differential equations and vector calculus, Foundations of physics 2, Partial differential equations, and Physics skills 2. The third year is dedicated to a Professional placement and Study abroad. The fourth year advances technical capability through Advanced quantum mechanics, MPhys / MSci project preparation, and Self-directed learning. The fifth year centers entirely on the MPhys/MSci research project.
