About this course
Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering with Industrial Year MEng, a civil engineering degree centred on practical design and technical analysis. Core topics include Engineering Design and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. This five-year programme incorporates a dedicated professional placement during the third year, leading to an individual final-year project. The first year establishes fundamental mathematical and scientific principles through Engineering Mathematics 1, Mechanics 1, and Fluid Mechanics and Energy Transfer. The second year develops core disciplinary knowledge via Mechanics of Structures, Soil Mechanics, and Environmental Fluid Mechanics. Following the industrial placement, the fourth year advances technical capability with modules such as Structural Analysis and Design, Transport Systems Engineering and Design, and Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence for Civil Engineers. The final year allows advanced specialisation across complex infrastructure topics, featuring modules like Advanced Structural Design, Tunnelling, and Climate Resilient Infrastructure and GIS alongside an Individual Engineering Project.
