About this course
Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish BA, a French and Francophone Studies and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree centred on linguistic proficiency and cultural analysis. Core topics include Global & Comparative Perspective. The course includes a compulsory third year spent abroad on a study placement or work placement. The first year covers language acquisition and cultural foundations through French Language 1 (Advanced), Spanish Language 1 (Advanced), and Introduction to Hispanic Cultures. The second year builds on these competencies with modules such as French Language 2 (Advanced), Spanish Language 2 (Advanced), and Global French: Communities, Politics and International Relations. The final year incorporates advanced linguistic study and specialised options including French Language Final Year, Spanish Language Final Year, and Echoes of Colonialism and Imperialism Across Cultures. Students also complete a substantial independent project through the Final Year Extended Independent Study Module in Modern Languages.
