About this course
Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering with Industrial Experience, a materials science and engineering degree focused on the structural and functional properties of engineering materials. Core topics include Data Analysis and Research Methods. The course includes a dedicated industrial experience year and culminates in an individual research project. The first year introduces foundational principles through Mathematics and Computing for Engineers, Thermodynamics, Kinetics and Fluids, and Discover: Practical and Design Skills for Materials Science. The second year advances into specialised areas covering Materials Characterisation and Data Analysis, Modelling Materials Behaviour, and Fracture, Fatigue and Degradation. The third year is spent on industrial placement. The fourth year features a group project alongside advanced modules such as Advanced Manufacturing, High Performance Materials, and Biomaterials. The final year concludes with an individual research project and Synoptic Materials Science.
