About this course

Bachelor of Science in Microbiology BSc, a biology and microbiology degree centred on the scientific study of microscopic life, cellular processes and organism interactions. Core topics include Data Analysis, Fieldwork, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The programme combines theoretical learning with hands-on training across three years of study. The first year establishes fundamental scientific concepts through compulsory modules such as Cell Biology & Physiology, Discovering Biosciences Skills and Enterprise, and Molecular Biosciences and Microbiology. The second year introduces more specialised subjects, featuring compulsory modules like Communication and Enterprise, Genetic Engineering and Data Science, and Microbiology: Medicine, Environment, and Industry. Students also select from various optional modules and field courses including Alpine and Glacial Ecology in Norway. The final year involves advanced study and independent research through compulsory options such as Practical Project, and Evidence-based literature review and critical analysis informed project proposal, alongside optional choices like Arctic Microbiology and Bacterial Gene Regulation.
