About this course
Bachelor of Arts in Spanish BA, a Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree centred on Hispanic film, literature, history, art and politics. Core topics include Global & Comparative Perspective. The four-year programme incorporates a mandatory year abroad or professional placement. The first year establishes linguistic competence and cultural context through modules such as Spanish Language 1 (Advanced), Introduction to Hispanic Cultures, Latin American Histories and Cultures A and Translation in Practice I. The second year expands into specialized subjects including Spanish Language 2 (Advanced), Digital Media and Spanish Youth Culture, Icons of the Hispanic World and Translation in the Workplace. The final year involves advanced linguistic study and independent research through modules such as Spanish Language Final Year, Final Year Extended Independent Study Module in Modern Languages, Imagining the Truth: Latin American Culture in a Post-truth World and Social and Political Processes in Contemporary Latin America.
