BA Primary Education

University of Buckingham

About this course

BA (Hons) Primary Education, an education degree delivered online over three years. This course is designed for teaching assistants in schools in England aiming to become primary or prep school teachers while remaining in paid employment. The curriculum integrates academic study with workplace reflection, supported by university tutors and materials created by academics and head teachers. Students commit approximately ten to twelve hours per week to reading and writing alongside their contracted work hours. The programme includes an in-person or online course induction prior to the June start date. Study is conducted entirely online, allowing participants to complete tasks flexibly around their employment schedules. Graduates may subsequently apply for the Qualified Teacher Status course subject to eligibility requirements.

Complete a successful interview with a member of the Faculty of Education. Overseas applicants must have a good standard of written English and have an IELTS score of 6.5 or above or have completed some of their education in English. Those who wish to apply for the BA Primary but who do not have two A-levels or other level 3 qualifications worth 32 UCAS points, or who wish to improve their academic writing skill, should take the 14-week academic writing course we offer, starting in January 2027.
