Entry requirements
A level: AAB and a grade B/6 or above in GCSE Mathematics (if Mathematics is not studied at A-Level). IB: 35 with 665 in higher level subjects. If Mathematics is not taken at higher level, then it is required at standard level 5.
About this course
BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance, an accounting and finance degree combining the two disciplines within a business context. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Research Methods, Financial Analysis and Accounting. It can be completed in three years full-time, with an optional placement year or year abroad. Several modules may lead to exemptions from ICAEW, ACCA, ICAS and CIMA professional examinations, depending on module choice and the mark obtained. The first year builds foundations through Financial Accounting, Quantitative Methods, Fundamentals of Management Accounting and Foundations of Finance, covering double-entry bookkeeping, mathematical and statistical techniques, costing and decision making, and the principles of corporate finance and financial markets; Introduction to Financial Economics and Ethics and Sustainability in Accounting complete the compulsory set. The second year develops the subject through Intermediate Financial Reporting, Corporate Finance, Management Accounting, Intermediate Financial Economics, Financial Econometrics 1 and Accounting Dissertation Preparation, with module choice linked to whether the dissertation is later taken in finance or in accounting. Optional modules in the second year include Banking, Entrepreneurial Finance, Financial Valuation and Business Law. The final year centres on a compulsory Dissertation on an accounting or finance topic, alongside optional modules including Big Data Analytics, Corporate Governance, Audit and Assurance, Behavioural Finance and Real Estate Finance.
