About this course
BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence, a computer science degree centred on the algorithms and mathematical foundations of intelligent systems. Core topics include Programming, Computer Architecture, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Year 2's Software Engineering module includes a team-based project carried out with an external organisation. The programme can be extended to four years through an optional year abroad or work placement. The first year lays foundations through Algorithms and Data Structures, Mathematics for Computer Science, Computer Systems and Data Science, covering algorithm design and analysis, linear algebra and probability, computer architecture, and statistical data processing. Year 2 moves into Artificial Intelligence, with compulsory modules in Theory of Computation, Networks and Systems, Programming Paradigms and Software Engineering covering intelligent search and machine learning, computability and complexity, distributed systems and cybersecurity, procedural, object-oriented and functional programming, and the software development lifecycle. The final year pairs the Individual Project, a substantial independent investigation worth one third of final-year study, with Core Artificial Intelligence, NLP & Applications of AI, and Computer Vision and Robotic Perception, covering deep and reinforcement learning, language models, and image classification and detection. Optional modules have included Advanced Algorithms & Data Structures, Cryptography, Parallel Scientific Computing and Interactive Media, Gaming and VR/AR Technologies.
