About this course
MEng (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence, a computer science degree centred on designing intelligent computational systems. Core topics include Programming, Computer Architecture, Systems Design, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. In year two, Software Engineering includes a team project delivered with an external organisation. A final-year Advanced Project accounts for half of the fourth year, and students may add a year abroad or a placement, extending the degree to five years. The first year establishes the foundations through Programming, Algorithms and Data Structures, Computer Systems, Mathematics for Computer Science, Data Science and Computational Thinking. Year two covers computer science with Artificial Intelligence, Theory of Computation, Networks and Systems, Programming Paradigms, Software Engineering and Graphics and Image Processing. In year three the compulsory content turns to applied AI through Core Artificial Intelligence, NLP & Applications of AI and Computer Vision and Robotic Perception, alongside Project Preparation covering research methods and technical communication; optional modules have included Cryptography, Parallel Scientific Computing and Interactive Media, Gaming and VR/AR Technologies. The final year centres on the Advanced Project, an independent investigation taking half the year, with compulsory modules in Natural Language Processing and Agentic AI and Advanced Visual Computing; optional choices have included Robotics & Autonomous Systems, Quantum Computing, Compilers and Optimisation and Algorithmic Game Theory.
