About this course
BSc (Hons) in Biology and Psychology, a Natural Sciences degree that brings together biological and psychological study, including research methods, statistics, communication and writing skills. The course is taught by subject specialists, with the biology side linking theory to practical experience. It examines biological mechanisms that underlie behaviour, with a full-time structure completed over three years. The first year covers foundations including Genetics, Introduction to Physiology and Introduction to Psychological Research, alongside either Introduction to Psychology 1: Cognitive and Biological Psychology or Introduction to Psychology 2: Developmental and Social Psychology. Optional modules have included Organisms and the Environment, Molecules and Cells, and a Language Module. Year 2 develops the biology strand through Molecular Biology and Integrated Physiological Systems, while psychology continues with Cognitive and Biological Psychology, Social and Developmental Psychology and Advanced Research Methods and Statistics, the last of which covers statistical technique and communicating research aims and findings. In the final year, compulsory modules include Ageing, Geonomics, Contemporary Issues in the Biosciences and Individual Differences and Mental Health. The year also contains a Biology Literature Review, presenting a critical review of research in a topic from the biological sciences, and a Psychology Project that formulates and investigates a research question with attention to ethical issues.
