About this course

BA (Hons) Combined Honours in Social Sciences, a social sciences degree in which students combine two or more subject areas. Core topics include Research Methods. The degree can be taken over three years full-time, or four with an optional placement year or year abroad. Each department requires preparatory modules that lead to a compulsory dissertation in the final year. Compulsory Dissertation Prerequisites modules appear in both the first and second years, preparing students for the final-year dissertation; optional content is subject-specific. Subject choices span the social sciences — Anthropology, Archaeology, Education, Geography, Politics and International Relations, Sociology and Criminology, and Sport and Exercise Sciences — alongside business options Economics and Management and Marketing. Up to half the annual credits can be drawn from Arts and Humanities subjects, including Classics and Ancient History, English Literature, History, Music, Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, Visual Arts, and the languages Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. Students combine two subjects or spread their study across three or four. The final year centres on the compulsory Dissertation module, with further subject-specific options including Decolonising Knowledge and Power, which considers decolonisation as a concept and a historical process.
