About this course
BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Mathematics, a natural sciences degree combining computing and mathematics. Core topics include Programming, Computer Architecture, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The first two years follow the same course structure as the MSci programme, balanced equally between computer science and mathematics, and students may transfer into BSc Computer Science, Mathematics or Natural Sciences at the end of Year 1. Year 1 lays foundations in both subjects through compulsory modules Algorithms and Data Structures, Calculus I, Linear Algebra I, Probability I and Statistics I, with recent optional modules including Computer Systems and Data Science. Year 2 broadens across the two fields, with example optional modules spanning Theory of Computation, Programming Paradigms, Artificial Intelligence, Images and Visualisation, Probability, Statistical Inference II, Data Science and Statistical Modelling II, and Algebra II. Year 3 focuses on a compulsory 40-credit capstone taken in one subject, delivered as a Computer Science Project or a Mathematics Group Project and Individual Project. Optional modules at this level let students specialise in areas including Advanced Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Graphics, Machine Learning and Neural Networks III, and Mathematical Finance III.
