About this course
BA (Hons) in Education Studies - Psychology, a psychology and education degree examining how psychological theory connects to learning and educational practice. Core topics include Statistics, Research Methods, Communication & Writing. Accreditation from the British Psychological Society is available, and students may apply to undertake a placement year or study abroad at an overseas partner institution, extending the degree from three to four years for successful applicants. The first year covers the foundations through Introduction to Psychological Research, Foundations of Psychology in Education, Education in Question, and Introduction to Psychology 2: Social and Developmental Psychology, addressing research design, statistical techniques, educational inquiry and learner differences. The second year builds research capability through Researching Education and Advanced Research Methods and Statistics, while Social and Developmental Psychology and Cognitive and Biological Psychology develop theoretical understanding of key psychological domains. The final year centres on the compulsory Dissertation and Psychology Project modules, where students plan and complete supervised independent research reported in written form, alongside Education Reimagined and Individual Differences and Mental Health. Optional modules have previously included Education, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Understanding the Arts in Education, The Social Life of Education, and Evidence and Educational Policy.
