About this course
MEng in Engineering (Aeronautical), an engineering degree combining a broad multi-disciplinary base with aeronautical specialisation. Core topics include Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Signal Processing, Control Systems, Mathematical Modelling and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The first two years are shared General Engineering years taken with students from other engineering disciplines. From the third year the course specialises in aeronautical engineering, and the final year centres on the MEng Research and Development Project. The first year covers engineering foundations through Solid Mechanics and Structures, Electronic and Electrical Systems, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, Mathematics for Engineers and Computational Tools for Engineers and Scientists. The second year deepens these subjects with Engineering Mathematics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Solid Mechanics and Structures, and Engineering Design, which runs a major project under academic supervision. The third year moves into the aeronautical specialisation through Aircraft Performance, Control and Signal Processing, Aeronautical Design, Materials and Solid Mechanics. The fourth year concentrates on advanced aeronautical and structural theory, covering Non-Linear Solid Mechanics, Aircraft Structures, Aeromechanics, Fluid Mechanics and Turbomachinery and Propulsion, alongside the compulsory MEng Research and Development Project. An optional final-year module allows further study beyond the aeronautical core; recent options have included Artificial Intelligence, Environmental Engineering, and Optimisation and Control for Artificial Intelligence.
