About this course
MEng (Hons) in Engineering (Electronic), an engineering degree centred on electronic and electrical engineering in a general engineering context. Core topics include circuit design, microelectronics, computer architecture, signal processing, control systems and engineering design. The first two years are shared with General Engineering before students specialise in Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, with additional final-year specialist content in Renewable Energy and Bioengineering. The first year builds broad engineering foundations through Solid Mechanics and Structures, Electronic and Electrical Systems, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics and Mathematics for Engineers. The second year continues the common programme with Engineering Mathematics, Electronics covering analogue circuits, sensors and microprocessor design, Electrical Engineering, and Engineering Design involving a major design project. The third year focuses on electronics through Electronics and Communications, Control and Signal Processing, Digital Electronics and Digital Signal Processing, and Semiconductor Physics and Devices. The fourth year is built around the MEng Research and Development Project alongside compulsory Radio and Digital Communications, Communications Networks, Advanced Electronics and Photonics. Students take one optional module in the final year; recent choices have included Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, Environmental Engineering, and Optimisation and Control for Artificial Intelligence.
