About this course

BEng (Hons) in Engineering (Electronic), an engineering degree centred on electronic and electrical engineering. Core topics include Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Signal Processing, Control Systems, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling and Engineering Design. The first two years cover a shared broad engineering base, with transfer between this course and the four-year MEng possible until the end of the second year. A year in industry or study at an overseas institution may be taken between the second and third years. The first year builds common foundations through Solid Mechanics and Structures, Electronic and Electrical Systems, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics and Mathematics for Engineers. The second year deepens the core: Engineering Mathematics covers probability, statistics and advanced modelling methods; Solid Mechanics and Structures moves into dynamics, vibration, stress analysis and finite element methods; Electronics covers analogue circuits, sensors, digital electronics and microprocessor design; and Engineering Design introduces the design process and project management through a major design project. The third year specialises into Electronic Engineering through Electronics and Communications, which covers analogue electronics, CAD tools and communications concepts, alongside Control and Signal Processing, Digital Electronics and Digital Signal Processing, and Electrical Engineering, which covers power electronics and renewable energy integration. The BEng Engineering Project is an individual, supervisor-led investigation of a research topic, involving data generation and analysis.
