About this course

MEng (Hons) in Engineering (Renewable Energy), a four-year engineering degree centred on renewable energy systems and technologies. Core topics include Control Systems, Signal Processing, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Microelectronics, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Mathematical Modelling and Systems Design. The first two years are shared as General Engineering, with two routes (A and B) available in the third year. The final year includes a supervised research and development project. The first year covers engineering foundations through Solid Mechanics and Structures, Electronic and Electrical Systems, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics and Mathematics for Engineers. The second year deepens this with Engineering Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and a compulsory Engineering Design project. In the third year, the renewable energy stream offers two routes: both share Engineering Design, Electrical Engineering, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics and Control and Signal Processing, while Route A adds Semiconductor Physics and Devices and Electronics and Communications, and Route B adds Materials and Solid Mechanics. The final year focuses on renewable energy through Renewable Energy Technologies, Electrical Energy Conversion, Smart Energy Networks and Decarbonisation of Heating and Cooling, alongside the MEng Research and Development Project. Final-year optional modules have included Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, Environmental Engineering, and Optimisation and Control for Artificial Intelligence.
