Entry requirements

A level: AAB and a grade A/7 or above in GCSE Mathematics (if Mathematics is not studied at A-Level). IB: 35 with 665 in higher level subjects. If Mathematics is not taken at higher level, then it is required at standard level 5.

About this course

BSc (Hons) in Finance (with study abroad) is a degree in economics, accounting and finance. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, Research Methods, Project Management, Financial Analysis, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The third year is spent studying abroad at a partner university, and students can alternatively complete the course in three years or add a placement year. Practical work uses Bloomberg Terminals in the Financial Trading Lab. The first year covers the foundations through Foundations of Finance, Quantitative Methods, Introduction to Financial Economics and Ethics and Finance, spanning core finance principles, the mathematics and statistics used across the degree, and the ethical dimensions of financial activity. Year 2 adds Corporate Finance, Intermediate Financial Economics, Financial Econometrics 1 and Programming for Finance, covering investment appraisal, economic models of markets, econometric estimation and coding applied to financial data. Optional modules in this year have included Corporate Governance, Entrepreneurial Finance, Derivative Markets and Banking. The third year is spent studying abroad at a partner university. The final year centres on Security Investment Analysis and a compulsory Dissertation, in which students investigate a finance topic of their own choice. Final-year options have included Quantitative Finance with Artificial Intelligence, Behavioural Finance, Financial Econometrics 2, Financial Derivatives and Financial Engineering, Financial Technology and Real Estate Finance.
