About this course

The LLB (Hons) in Law is an undergraduate degree centred on the law of England and Wales. Core topics include Research Methods, Legal Analysis, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The degree forms the first stage of professional training for qualifying as a solicitor or barrister, and optional modules allow specialisation across public and private law, including international law. Students can extend the three-year course to four years through a placement year or a year abroad at an overseas partner institution. The first year introduces the foundations of the English legal system through Introduction to English Law and Legal Method, Tort Law, Contract Law and UK Constitutional Law. The second year moves into core substantive areas with compulsory Criminal Law, Land Law and Trusts Law. Optional modules at this stage have included Contemporary Issues in Public Law, Law of Family Relationships, Commercial Law and Financial Law. The final year centres on the compulsory Dissertation, where students undertake supervised research in a substantive area of law. Final-year optional modules have included Competition Law, Company Law, Intellectual Property Law, Media Law and Advanced Issues in Criminal Law.
