Entry requirements

A level: A*AA including an arts/humanities or social sciences subject and Mathematics. You do not need to have studied Economics at A-Level to apply for this programme. IB: 37 with 766 in higher level subjects, including an arts/humanities subject and Mathematics. If you are not taking Mathematics at higher level, we can accept standard level Mathematics at grade 7.

About this course

BA (Hons) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), an undergraduate degree in economics combined with political theory and moral philosophy. Core topics include Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The degree can be extended to four years with an optional placement year or year abroad. The final year centres on a Dissertation examining a topic in philosophy, politics or economics. The first year covers the foundations of economics through Principles of Economics and Economic Methods, alongside Ethics and Values and Knowledge, Minds and Reality. Economics options in this year have included Perspectives of Political Economy and Introduction to Comparative Politics. In the second year, students take either Macroeconomics together with Microeconomics, or the combined Economic Theory module. Philosophy is represented by either The Philosophy of Economics and Politics or Political Philosophy, alongside two chosen from Econometrics, Research Project and a Philosophy module. Later options have included Behavioural and Experimental Economics, Moral Theory and Foundations of Western Political Thought. The final year is built around the compulsory Dissertation, with further options such as Development Economics, Philosophy and Climate Change, and Theories of Liberty.
