About this course
BSc (Hons) Psychology, a psychology degree covering cognitive, biological, social, developmental, and clinical aspects of mind and behaviour. Core topics include Statistics, Research Methods, and Communication & Writing. The degree meets the guidelines of the British Psychological Society, and students can apply to add a placement year or a year abroad, extending the course from three to four years. The first year covers the main areas of the discipline through Introduction to Psychology 1: Cognitive and Biological Psychology, Introduction to Psychology 2: Developmental and Social Psychology, and Introduction to Psychological Research, alongside Academic Skill Development for Psychology and Careers in Psychology. The second year deepens these foundations, with compulsory study of Cognitive and Biological Psychology, Social and Developmental Psychology, and Differential and Clinical Psychology, while Advanced Research Methods and Statistics applies research and statistical methods used in psychological research. The third year is built around a supervised Psychology Dissertation, in which students design and conduct a research project and submit the findings as a dissertation. Optional modules in the final year have included Current Issues in Mental Health, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology: Research to Practice, Developmental Neurodivergence, Face and Body Perception, The Use and Misuse of Statistics in Psychological Research, and Work-based Learning and Career Development.
