About this course
The BA (Hons) in Theology, Ministry and Mission is a theology degree studied at Cranmer Hall, an Anglican-founded institution within St John's College, Durham. The award is validated through Common Awards, the national scheme for theological and ministerial education. The Anglican foundation coexists with students from Free Church and independent backgrounds, most of whom are preparing for ordained ministry or church leadership. The first year is built around four compulsory modules that set out the biblical, doctrinal and practical ground of the subject. Biblical Study works through the Old and New Testaments, with the option to add Greek or Hebrew alongside them. The Christian Tradition sets out Christian doctrine, church history and ethics side by side. Ministerial and Missional Practice brings together mission and evangelism, leadership, pastoral care, preaching and Christian spirituality, and carries denominational training for both Anglican and Free Church students. Practical Theology applies theology to ministry contexts and includes work on death, dying and the Christian hope. Greek and Hebrew study is the one area of choice identified at this stage; no other optional modules or final project are named.
