About this course
MA (Hons) in Arabic and French, a joint honours degree within French and Francophone Studies and Hebrew and Jewish Studies. The programme includes a full academic year abroad during the third year to provide complete language immersion, and accommodates both complete beginners in Arabic and students with prior experience. The first year covers foundational historical and cultural topics through modules such as Islamic History, Modern Middle Eastern History, resistance and collaboration, and the Fifth Republic. The second year focuses on practical language abilities and broader cultural contexts via reading, writing, speaking, listening, the religion of Islam, and Introduction to European Cinema. In the fourth year, students advance their studies through specialized modules including modern Arabic literature, classical Arabic literature, Islamic thought, Arabic feminist texts and women's rights, Islam and the Middle East, and Francophone literature and culture.
