About this course

MA (Hons) in Arabic and History, a Hebrew and Jewish Studies and History degree exploring the Arabic language alongside historical periods and global contexts. Students spend a year of the programme studying and using their Arabic abroad. The course is designed for complete beginners in Arabic, though heritage learners and those with prior experience can also be accommodated. Year 1 features a wide-ranging core course focused on key skills and habits, alongside options covering the medieval period or the early modern period. Year 2 develops proficiency through reading, writing, speaking, and listening modules. Year 3 involves a year spent studying in a country in which Arabic is spoken. Year 4 focuses on specialized topics including modern Arabic literature, classical Arabic literature, Islamic thought, and Arabic feminist texts and women's rights.
