About this course
MA (Hons) in Arabic and Persian, a Hebrew and Jewish Studies degree centred on the study of two major Middle Eastern languages and their cultural contexts. The programme is designed for complete beginners in both languages, welcoming heritage learners and those with prior experience through potential exemptions from introductory language study. The first year covers the foundations through Islamic History and Modern Middle Eastern History. The second year builds proficiency via reading, writing, speaking, listening, the religion of Islam, and Islamic and Middle Eastern Cultures. The third year includes support services such as the Student Wellbeing Service, Student Counselling, Student Disability and Learning Support, and a university emergency helpline. The final year involves advanced study in Arabic and Persian literature, Iran including pre-Islamic Persia, Islam, and the Middle East.

- Modern Middle Eastern History - an introduction to the Middle East's political, economic, social and cultural history from 1950 until the present day
