About this course
BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences, a biological sciences degree focusing on living organisms and their environmental interactions. Core topics include Programming and Data Analysis. Students can choose between the BSc programme and the MBiol programme, and the curriculum offers 12 different biological sciences subject areas for specialisation in later stages. The first year covers foundational methods including hypothesis development and experimental design, introductory coding, and student-led investigative projects. The second year examines core cellular and evolutionary concepts through modules such as DNA replication and repair, natural selection and the origin of species, cellular metabolic processes, and regulation and control of biological systems. The third year allows students to study advanced topics through modules such as biochemistry, biotechnology, cell biology, development, regeneration and stem cells, ecology, evolutionary biology, genetics, immunology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, plant science, and zoology.

- On the BSc programme, you will progress into your chosen biological subject specialisation, which will lead to your honours programme of choice.
- On the MBiol programme, you will not select a specific specialisation, but you will be encouraged to align with one of the areas of biological science. You must achieve an average of 60% across Years 1 and 2 to progress to the MBiol programme.
