About this course
MA (Hons) in Chinese and French, a French and Francophone Studies and Chinese degree exploring the languages, histories, literatures and societies of multiple regions. Core topics include Research Methods. The four-year course includes an immersive study abroad period in Year 3 spent in mainland China or Taiwan and in a country where French is spoken. The first year covers resistance and collaboration, the Fifth Republic, colonisation and decolonisation, May 1968, feminism, linguistics and language sciences, business, economics and informatics, politics, social policy, social anthropology and international relations, art and architectural history, history, classics and archaeology, Celtic and Scottish ethnology, and philosophy, divinity and law. Year 2 focuses on referencing skills, essay and dissertation writing, and using software tools and Chinese libraries. Year 3 consists of time abroad supported by the Student Wellbeing Service, Student Counselling, Student Disability and Learning Support, and a 24-hour university emergency helpline. Year 4 examines film and literature, politics, modern and pre-modern history, and contemporary society.
