About this course

MA (Hons) in Chinese and Russian Studies, a Chinese degree focusing on the languages, literatures and cultural contexts of China and Russia. Core topics include Research Methods. The curriculum includes an immersive study abroad period in Year 3 spent in mainland China or Taiwan and a country where Russian is spoken, with entry levels available for complete beginners in both languages. Year 1 introduces studies across linguistics and language sciences, business, economics and informatics, politics, social policy, social anthropology and international relations, and art and architectural history. Year 2 develops research techniques through referencing skills, essay and dissertation writing, and using software tools and Chinese libraries, alongside modules such as Transnational Russian Culture, The Golden Age of Russian Literature, and Utopia and Dystopia in 20th-century Russian Literature. Year 3 consists of the immersive study abroad period. Year 4 advances learning through specialized topics including film and literature, politics, modern and pre-modern history, and contemporary society.
