About this course
MA (Hons) in Economics and Mathematics, a mathematics and economics degree centred on mathematical and computational approaches to economic theory. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Research Methods. The programme complements the foundational training in mathematical methods within economics with a rigorous development of mathematical principles. The first year covers core grounding through Economics 1A, Economics 1B, Introduction to Mathematics at University, and Introduction to Data Science, where students learn to collect and explore data. The second year progresses with Economics 2A, Economics 2B, Linear Algebra 2, and Elementary Probability and Statistics. Year three involves advanced study across Topics in Microeconomics, Essentials of Econometrics, Applications of Econometrics, and Topology. The final year requires either an economics honours dissertation or a project in mathematics alongside selected option courses in both subjects.
