About this course
MA (Hons) in English Literature, an English Literature degree exploring the cultural contexts of writing in English from the late Middle Ages to the present. The department is the oldest of its kind in the UK, drawing upon archival resources from both university collections and the National Library of Scotland. The first year covers a wide foundational range through poetry, drama and prose, alongside options in business, economics and informatics, politics, social policy, social anthropology and international relations, art and architectural history, history, classics and archaeology, Celtic and Scottish ethnology, linguistics and English language, and philosophy, divinity and law. The second year allows students to study Scottish Literature in a selection of major periods, learn (or continue to learn) a language, take classes in English Language and Linguistics, or do something completely different.
