About this course
MA (Hons) in German and English Language, a degree in English Language and Linguistics and German covering the linguistic and cultural study of languages. The four-year honours programme includes a full academic year abroad, which students can spend studying or working in one or two destinations. The first year introduces the study of language in general and the different subsystems of language through modules such as Linguistics and English Language 1A and Linguistics and English Language 1B. Year two offers various option choices spanning literature, film, and cultural history. The third year is spent abroad, allowing students to study at an institution or undertake work placements or volunteering. The final year focuses on advanced language competencies, including spoken German, essay and précis writing, and German-to-English translation of literary and journalistic texts alongside literature, film, and theatre.
