About this course

MA (Hons) in German and English Literature, a joint honours degree centred on English Literature and German. The curriculum includes a full academic year abroad, which students spend studying or working across destinations such as Berlin, Vienna, or Leipzig. The first year covers foundational study through poetry, drama, prose, and linguistics and English language. The second year introduces thematic topics such as Researching Disability in German Literature and Society, Culture, Modernity and the City in the Weimar Republic, Reading Testimony in German, and Introduction to European Cinema. The third year is spent abroad undertaking study or work placements. The final year focuses on advanced linguistic and literary study through modules such as spoken German, essay and précis writing, Goethe and Schiller, and The Third Reich in Literature and Testimony, culminating in independent writing work.
