About this course
MA (Hons) in German and History of Art, a German and History of Art degree exploring European languages, visual culture and historical contexts. Core topics include Communication & Writing. The course includes a full academic year abroad spent studying or working in one or two destinations across the German-speaking world. The first year covers introductory subjects through courses such as art and architectural history, linguistics and language sciences, and philosophy, divinity and law, alongside options from other disciplines. The second year focuses on specialised topics through modules such as Researching Disability in German Literature and Society, Culture, Modernity and the City in the Weimar Republic, Reading Testimony in German, and The Contemporary Short Story in German. The third year is spent abroad studying at an institution, working, or volunteering. The final year examines advanced concepts through academic writing, such as essays and commentaries, literary translation, literature, film, theatre, and society.
