About this course
MA (Hons) in German and Politics, a politics and international relations and german degree. The curriculum includes a full academic year abroad during the third year, spent studying or working in one or two destinations. The first year covers core modules such as Politics and International Relations 1A - Concepts and Debates, Politics and International Relations 1B - The Global Dimension and Political Thinkers (an introduction to political theory), alongside option courses from a range of disciplines. The second year features study in German literature and society through modules like Researching Disability in German Literature and Society, Culture, Modernity and the City in the Weimar Republic, Reading Testimony in German and The Contemporary Short Story in German. The third year consists of an academic year abroad involving study or work placements in locations such as Berlin, Augsburg, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Tübingen, Freiburg, Leipzig, Mainz and Vienna. The final year concentrates on advanced language and cultural studies through modules covering spoken German, essay and précis writing, German-to-English translation of literary and journalistic texts, literature, film, theatre and society.
