About this course
BSc (Hons) in Infectious Diseases, a BSc (Hons) Public Health and Microbiology degree centred on the study of pathogens, host-pathogen interactions, and their impact on global health. In the final year, students complete an independent research project. The degree is part of a suite of biomedical sciences programmes that share common foundational years. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules in biomedical sciences, medical biology, and molecular and cellular biology. The second year progresses with Biomedical Sciences 2, Microorganisms, Infection & Immunity 2, and Cells to Organisms 2. The third year introduces more specialised study with Biomedical Sciences 3, Medical Microbiology 3, Immunology 3, and Clinical Immunology and Haematology 3. Students can choose from specialisms including anatomy and development, biomedical sciences, reproductive biology, pharmacology, and neuroscience at the end of the third year. The fourth year focuses on advanced topics through compulsory modules such as Host-Pathogen Interactions in Infectious Disease, pathogen biology, anti-microbial drug resistance, global health, and diagnostics and therapeutics.
