About this course
MA (Hons) in Italian and English Language, an English Language and Linguistics and Italian degree. The course includes a full academic year abroad spent studying or working in Italy within the four-year honours programme. Students can start Italian as complete beginners. The first year covers introductory foundations through Linguistics and English Language 1A and Linguistics and English Language 1B. The second year explores topics such as Cultural Responses to War, Migration, Exile, Diaspora, and Crime and Detection in Literature alongside language dynamics. The third year is spent abroad in destinations such as Bologna, Milan, Rome or Venice through study or work placements. The final year advances proficiency with modules including spoken Italian - discussing, reflecting and presenting on Italian culture, politics and society, essay and creative writing, and Italian-to-English translation of literary and journalistic texts.
