About this course

MA (Hons) in Italian and History, a joint honours degree in Italian and History. Students spend the third year abroad studying or working in destinations such as Bologna, Florence, Rome or Venice. The first year covers a wide-ranging core course alongside options from history, politics, philosophy, and other subjects, with choices covering the medieval or early modern period. Year 2 features modules such as Cultural Responses to War, Migration, Exile, Diaspora, and Gender and Culture. Year 3 consists of a full academic year abroad spent studying or working in one or two destinations across Italy. The final year focuses on advanced language proficiency through spoken Italian, essay and creative writing, and Italian-to-English translation of literary and journalistic texts.
