About this course

BSc (Hons) in Mathematics, a mathematics degree centred on analytical thinking, theory, and quantitative methods. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, and Entrepreneurship. Students can switch between the BSc and MMath pathways up until the start of the fourth year based on academic performance, and outside subjects from across the university can be taken during the first two years. The first year establishes foundational concepts through Introduction to Mathematics at University, Introduction to Mathematical Analysis, Linear Algebra 1, Introduction to Data Science, and Fundamentals of Algebra and Calculus. The second year progresses with Linear Algebra 2, Elementary Probability and Statistics, Further Analysis and Several Variable Calculus, and Modelling and Computing. Third-year study focuses entirely on the discipline, covering modules such as Statistics, Topology, Algebra, Analysis, Operational Research, Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis, Probability and Measure Theory, Financial Mathematics, Introduction to Number Theory, and Statistical Computing. The final fourth year offers advanced study across areas like pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, operational research, financial mathematics, mathematical physics, and mathematical education, alongside a research project, a mathematical education course, a statistical case studies course, General Topology, Numerical Ordinary Differential Equations and Applications, Stochastic Modelling, and Entrepreneurship in the Mathematical Sciences.
