About this course
MA (Hons) in Persian Studies, a Hebrew and Jewish Studies degree centred on the language, history, and culture of Iran and the broader Middle East. The programme is designed for complete beginners in Persian and welcomes heritage language learners as well as those with prior experience. The first year covers introductory foundations through Islamic History, Modern Middle Eastern History, and linguistics and language sciences. The second year builds competence with the religion of Islam and Islamic and Middle Eastern Cultures. The third year continues study through support services. The final year involves advanced focus on Persian literature, Iran (including pre-Islamic Persia), and Islam and the Middle East.

- Modern Middle Eastern History - an introduction to the Middle East's political, economic, social and cultural history from 1950 until the present day
