About this course
MPhys in Physics with a Year Abroad, a physics degree within the study of physics. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, and Research Methods. Students spend the fourth year completing a research project at an overseas partner institution. The first year covers foundational topics through waves, classical mechanics, electricity, introductory quantum mechanics, and nuclear and particle physics. The second year introduces algebra, calculus, dynamics and vector calculus, programming, data analysis, and experimental techniques. The third year advances into electromagnetism, thermal physics, quantum mechanics, Fourier analysis, probability and statistics, numerical algorithms, research methods, and experimental laboratory. The fourth year involves an overseas placement at locations including The University of Sydney, The University of Melbourne, TRIUMF in Vancouver, Nagoya University, or the GSI Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Germany. The final year concludes with advanced studies in relativity, nuclear and particle physics, condensed matter physics, and statistical physics.
