About this course

MA (Hons) in Portuguese and English Literature, a joint honours degree in English Literature and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. Students spend the third year abroad studying or working in destinations such as Rio de Janeiro in Brazil or Lisbon and Coimbra in Portugal. The first year covers poetry, drama, prose, along with linguistics and English language. The second year explores cultural themes through options such as Cultural Responses to War, Migration, Exile, Diaspora, and Crime and Detection in Literature. The third year is spent abroad in one or two destinations for study or work. The final year focuses on advanced comprehension, summary writing, translation and composition, alongside presenting and discussing cultural, political and societal topics in Portuguese.
